Rietvallei John B Sauvignon Blanc 2026
Rietvallei Wine Estate is a historic family-owned estate in the Robertson Wine Valley, established in 1864 and now in the hands of the sixth generation of the Burger family. The estate combines its long winemaking heritage with a modern approach to vineyard management and cellar practices, with a particular focus on allowing the character of the Robertson terroir to come through in its wines. The John B Sauvignon Blanc 2026 comes from vines planted between 1983 and 1999, predominantly on southeast-facing slopes in rich, lime-rich soils. Rietvallei harvests the Sauvignon Blanc at different stages of ripeness, bringing together greener, more herbaceous characters with the tropical fruit and body of riper grapes. The wine is cold-fermented in stainless steel before spending time on its fine lees, preserving its freshness while adding a little extra texture.
Colour:
Bright, pale straw with a youthful, fresh appearance.
Nose: Fresh lemon zest and grapefruit lead the aromatics, followed by tropical notes of passionfruit and guava. There is a subtle green, grassy character in the background, adding freshness and lift.
Palate: Dry and light-bodied, with lively citrus and tropical fruit flavours. Grapefruit and lemon bring a zesty freshness, while a subtle mineral character adds interest. Bright acidity gives the wine energy and keeps the palate clean and refreshing.
Finish: Crisp and lingering, with citrus, tropical fruit and a subtle mineral note carrying through to a refreshing finish.
- Food Pairing : The fresh acidity and light, fruity character of Rietvallei John B Sauvignon Blanc 2026 make it particularly well suited to grilled fish, prawns, oysters, fresh salads and light chicken dishes. Its citrus freshness works especially well with seafood dressed with lemon, while the tropical fruit character complements lightly spiced dishes and fresh summer ingredients. Rietvallei itself recommends seafood, salads and light meals as natural pairings.
